Here you’ll find answers to the most commonly asked questions regarding DTS and games. This list will change as more items are asked, so check back often!
1. What platforms support DTS technologies for games?
A: DTS Digital Surround is supported by the PS3 and many PC’s. DTS Neural Surround is supported on the PS3, Xbox 360, PC, Mac and Wii.
2. How does Digital Surround work on the PS3?
A: Unlike movies or music, when you play a video game the audio is created in real time by the console and there is not typically any pre-encoded content in a game. Because of this, each time you play a game the audio is different, depending on where you move and the actions you take. As you play the game, the PS3 mixes the audio for you automatically and then passes this 6 channel mix to a DTS Digital Surround encoder which is built into the PS3. This creates in real time a DTS Digital Surround signal which can be decoded by your A/V receiver.
3. How do I connect my PS3 to get DTS Digital Surround?
A: There are two different ways to get audio from a PS3, HDMI and optical. DTS Digital Surround is supported with each audio connection. If your AVR provides an optical connection, and does not have HDMI, then follow these steps:
• Connect the PS3 to your A/V receiver using the optical cable
• In the PS3 interface, go into the “Settings” Menu and choose “Sound Setting”
• Choose “Audio Output Settings” and then “Optical Audio”
• Hit right on the D-Pad and make sure “DTS 5.1 Ch” is selected
• Hit right on the D-pad and “DTS 5.1 Ch” will be listed in the Output Formats
• Hit the X button to Save your settings
4. How do I use DTS Neural Surround in my games?
A: Look on the box to check that the DTS Neural Surround logo is there. If it is, the game supports this 7.1 audio technology. Check in the options menu of the game to see if you need to turn DTS Neural Surround on. Then check to make sure your A/V receiver supports 7.1 DTS Neural Surround. Each manufacturer has a different way on their remote for choosing surround modes so you will need to toggle the Surround Mode button until you see “DTS Neural Surround 7.1” on the display. If you have a 7.1 audio system that’s all you need to do! The game and the AV receiver will do all the hard work for you, so sit back and enjoy your game!
5. How can I know if a game supports DTS technologies?
A: Look on the back of the box for a logo, or click here to find out which games have DTS audio technology support.
