Paul Smith

Paul Smith joined DTS, Inc. in 1995 as Director of Consumer Engineering, and was named Vice President of Research & Development in 2000 and Senior Vice President in 2003. He has extensive experience in product R&D. Since 1990, audio has been Paul's primary area of research, beginning with the development of a new low bit-rate audio coder and acoustic echo chancellor for Audio Processing Technology, Ltd. (APT). Leaving APT as Manager of R&D in 1994 to form AlgoRhythmic Technology, Ltd. (ART), Smith developed a range of coding and transmission products for the professional audio industry.

Paul holds three US patents and several foreign counterparts in audio coding, and has published several papers on the subject. He graduated with a First Class Honours degree in Electronic Engineering from Queen's University Belfast, Northern Ireland. Thereafter Paul was involved in post-graduate collaborative research with General Electric Corporation on the simulation and analysis of quaternary alloy semiconductors
