Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Can PS3 Stream out DTS-HD Master Audio to my AVR?Answer

No. But it doesn't need to. PlayStaion 3 decodes DTS-HD Master Audio internally, then sends PCM (upto 7.1 channels) to your AVR via HDMI.

  2. DTS–HD Format compatibility: How do I hook up my system?Answer

To experience the superior surround sound quality of DTS-HD, there are a variety of ways you can connect to your A/V receiver and pre-amplifier depending on your setup and DTS decoder. Click here for some instructions.

  3. What players/receivers support DTS-HD Master Audio?Answer

Please look at our list of manufacturers for some of the recommended DTS-HD Master Audio equipment.

  4. What 7.1 Speaker Configuration should I use?Answer

Home theater systems are often set up with different speaker layouts, sometimes dictated by room dimensions or furniture placement. DTS-HD Audio includes a 7.1 Speaker Layout feature, which allows the user to select from multiple speaker layouts depending on listening preferences and speaker location. 7.1 Speaker Layout uses sophisticated algorithms to electronically "reposition" speakers and is designed to let you play back the audio as the artist originally intended. The DTS-HD 7.1 Speaker Layout feature works for 6.1 or 7.1 channel configurations. Click here for more information.

  5. Why isn’t track #4, BT’s "1.618", on the 2007 DTS–HD Master Audio Demo Discs for HD–DVD and Blu–ray Disc playing in 7.1?Answer

On the 2007 DTS–HD Master Audio Demo Discs for Blu–ray Disc, track #4, BT’s "1.618", was mislabeled as being a 7.1–channel DTS–HD Master Audio soundtrack. This track is in fact a 5.1–channel encoding. Track 4 bitstreams transmitted via HDMI from players with DTS–HD Digital Out and decoded by A/V receivers with DTS–HD certification will indicate the playback as a 5.1–channel output. DTS is in the process of rectifying this misprint for future versions of the DTS–HD Master Audio Demo discs for Blu–ray Disc.

  6. How do I receive software updates?Answer

Click here to register the DTS-HD Master Audio Suite or DTS Surround Audio Suite. By registering your software, you will be given the current downloadable updates and all future updates when they become available.

DVD: No. A DTS stream must be accompanied by a stereo (2.0) PCM stream or a Dolby Digital stereo (2.0) stream at 224kbps, according to DVD specifications.

  9. What is the difference between the DTS-HD StreamPlayer and the SoundCode DTS-HD StreamPlayer?Answer

Users who purchased the MAS/SAS V1.0/1.1 received the SoundCode DTS-HD StreamPlayer™ plug-in, made by Neyrinck, for Pro Tools only. Since V1.5, the MAS and SAS packages contain the completely standalone DTS-HD StreamPlayer™ from DTS. This allows the user to play back encoded streams without the need for a DAW.
